Baio - The Names CD Neu
Thoughts of a solo project had repeatedly surfaced in Baio's mind, particularly during the breaks between extensive tours with his band Vampire Weekend, where he has played bass since 2006. Restlessness and the urge to experiment with his voice and become active outside the band's confines took hold of him during these periods. After releasing several EPs (Sunburn EP (2012), Mira EP (2013)), Baio now fulfills this dream with his debut album, The Names. The move from the USA to the UK provides a thematic framework: Baio explores various concepts of space, belonging, identity, and the search for one's place in the world. He initially felt overwhelmed upon arriving in London; by all the greenery, the vast sky above the city, its global significance, even though he was accustomed to something similar in New York. He incorporated all these elements into the sound of "The Names." Musically, Baio harks back to his college days and the electronic sounds he used to DJ. Lyrically and vocally, he explores entirely new territory on The Names, creating something that defies easy categorization. Reviews: "Voices flicker, sounds run backward, the arrangements feel streamlined, and striking synthetic and spatial details surprisingly complement the overall structure." (stereoplay, October 2015) Tracklisting: Brainwash, yyrr, Face, The Names, Sister Of Pearl, I Was Born In A Marathon, Needs All The Idiots Matter, Endless Rhythm, Scarlett, Neu
