»The Twits« was recorded by the band in February 2023 in just eight weeks in a makeshift home studio in Mallorca and mixed by Marta Salogni. Named after a children's book by Roald Dahl, bar italia's songwriting shows itself in raw, mystical, unbrushed and occasionally dark arrangements. Songs like »my little tony« with its hard riffs and cathartic sound is a classic indie banger for the big stage. In other moments, the band ventures into previously unknown territory, where they create a hypnotic dissonance of their voices. "Jelsy", for example, plays out like a conversation between friends over wistful, humming country blues, with the voices alternately comforting, ironic and hopelessly longing. The smooth, slow-burning waltz "Twist" captivates with its naked lyricism and seems to invite each band member to make an individual confession.
