Product description

"Sometimes They Come Back" is not only the title of a horror film based on a macabre story by Stephen King, but also a summary of what happened to the British death metal veterans Benediction, though one could add "better than ever".

Although they never officially disbanded, 2020's "Scriptures," the group's eighth studio album, accomplished what is usually no easy feat. It picked up well where classics like "Transcend the Rubicon" (1993) and its immediate and memorable songwriting left off, as well as "Grind Bastard" (1998), and also saw the return of legendary vocalist Dave Ingram with his relentless growls and knack for morbid, twisted lyrics. After two albums with Dave Hunt on vocals, »Scriptures« was Benediction's first album in over a decade and impressed with aggressive up-tempo attacks like »Iterations of I« and »Rabid Carnality« or the breakneck mid-tempo barrage of ›Stormcrow‹, songs that, alongside evergreens like »I Bow to None«, »Magnificat«, »Subconscious Terror subconscious Terror« or »Vision in the Shroud«, quickly became live hits.

With Scriptures, Benediction even nearly cracked the Top Ten in Germany, reaching a phenomenal number 11 in the Official German Charts. This demonstrates that the death metal veterans, formed in Birmingham, England in 1989, offered an extremely well-received sonic catharsis at a time when people were locked down and fed up due to the pandemic. As the shroud of Covid-19 lifted, the quintet was finally able to begin promoting the album live, playing numerous festival appearances. Breeze (DE), Copenhell (DK), Mystic Festival (PL), UK Deathfest, Alcatraz (BE), Party.San (DE), Obscene Extreme (CZ), Eindhoven Metal Meeting (NL), and Rock Hard (DE), to name just a few, played triumphant shows in South and Central America, as well as in their home country and across Europe.

The blistering opener "A Carrion Harvest," which builds to a real bang, hits you without warning. "A Carrion Harvest," which culminates in a vicious, Slayer-esque break, begins with Ingram growling "Brace for impact, go!", giving an unmistakable indication of what to expect in the following 47 minutes and 11 songs. With tremolo riffs galore and pounding grooves abounding, tracks like "Engines of War," "Genesis Chamber," "Crawling over Corpses," "In the Dread of the Night," and "Psychosister" display remarkable consistency, and Scott Atkins, who produced the album at grindstone studio, ensures with a crisp, massive sound that the aforementioned impact leaves no bone unscathed.

Featuring artwork by Wolven Claws artist, Ravage Of Empires elevates Benediction's impeccable discography to a premier league level and promises to be one of the undisputed old-school death metal highlights of 2025!
