Seit der Veröffentlichung der »Breeding Death«-EP im Jahr 2000 ist die Band ein Flaggschiff des extremen Metals geblieben und seit 15 Jahren eine enorme Kraft, vor allem auch wegen ihres bis dato erfolgreichsten Albums »The Fathomless Mastery« von 2008.
Erneut fanden die Aufnahmen in den Ghost Ward und City of Glass Studios in Stockholm statt. Abgemischt von David Castillo (Katatonia, Opeth) ist Bloodbaths viertes Album das bis jetzt dunkelste und schmutzigste Werk der Band; eine organische Ansammlung von dreckigen Songs, direkt aus dem Grab kommend. Statt auf überproduzierten modernen Death Metal, setzt man auf ein durch und durch schmutziges Gesamtbild. Doomige Melodien gemischt mit einem rauen und wilden Riffing und Gastspiele von Musikern wie Chris Reifert und Eric Cutler von den US Gore-Meistern Autopsy, machen »Grand Morbid Funeral« zu einem neuen Highlight für Bloodbath.
