After their debut album »I« in 2023, which earned them national radio presence, appearances at major festivals and European tours, Montreal-based art-pop trio Bye Parula expands their aesthetic horizons with their second album »Something Out of Nothing« and dedicates themselves to a more introspective songwriting. Like its predecessor, »Something Out of Nothing« by Robbie Kuster was produced by Patrick Watson and mixed by Warren Spicer of Plants and Animals, but the new album also features a team of contributors – including Inuk singer and songwriter Elisapie, Adèle Trottier-Rivard of Bibi Club, Morgan Moore and Karkwa keyboardist François Lafontaine – who testify to the growing importance of Bye Parula in the Canadian indie scene. The result is an eclectic blend that draws on the orchestral funk of Serge Gainsbourg, the melancholic melodies of Elliott Smith, the mundane rhythms of Talking Heads and the down-to-earth R&B of Dijon, all imbued with a '70s cinematic sensibility that blurs the line between sun-drenched, soft-focus fantasy and urban sophistication.
