But it also explores multi-layered terrains, atmospheres and melodies – making Cage Fight sound bigger, tighter and more epic than ever before. »Exuvia« is Cage Fight's first album with new bassist Will Horsman, who joins original members James, vocalist Rachel Aspe and drummer Nick Plebs. Cage Fight prove that they are not afraid to experiment and can also have fun. An example of this is the track »Pick Your Fighter«, on which Julien Truchan from Benighted participates as a guest singer and which is accompanied by the French pop song »Et c'est parti...« was inspired by Nâdiya – which you would never suspect given the crushing heaviness of the song. Rachel addresses various experiences such as fear, assaults and dealing with grief in her lyrics. The expansive final track, »Élégie«, is about the loss of her grandfather and the regret that can come from unspoken things. In »Pig«, she denounces creepy men who send unsolicited messages to women on the internet, while the title track was inspired by her grandmother, who is currently battling cancer and also helped Rachel write the lyrics for this song. The cover of the album, photographed by Manuel Acquualeni, shows a radiation protection mask, which refers both to Rachel's experiences with her grandmother and to the title of the album.
