Their cover version of Rammstein's "Sonne" ushered in a new era for Caliban: since then, at least one song per album has been reserved for German lyrics, as Andreas Dörner's vocals harmonize perfectly with his native language. After the voices had grown increasingly louder following a complete album in German, the band eventually asked themselves: "Why not?" and the idea for "Zeitgeister" was born. After 11 genre-defining studio albums, the core concept came to life when the band freed itself from any limitations. "Choosing the songs wasn't easy at first," explains guitarist and main songwriter Marc Görtz. "But after we decided not to set any limits on how far the songs could deviate from the originals, the choice became easier. We deliberately chose songs that have always been very important to us, but which we practically never play live anymore." A fresh approach was also needed when rewriting the lyrics. "Simply translating the English lyrics word for word into German was obviously impossible and not an option for us. Therefore, we made it our mission to take the themes of each song, reinterpret them, and adapt them. The implementation was sometimes very tricky because, of course, we had a certain template that we wanted to at least partially fulfill," explains Dörner. Together with their regular producer Benjamin Richter (Moonspell, Emil Bulls and many more), Caliban have given seven classics a fresh new look: "Trauma" (feat. Matthi from Nasty, "Arena Of Concealment"), "Herz" ("I Will Never Let You Down"), "Ausbruch nach Innen" ("Tyranny Of Small Misery"), "Feuer, zieh' mit mir" ("Between The Worlds"), "Nichts ist für immer" ("All I Gave"), "Intoleranz" ("Intolerance") and "Mein Inferno" ("My Little Secret").
