Quiet Fire is the new album by British producer, musician and Edition Records founder Dave Stapleton – a beat-based jazz album, characterized by rhythmic-loop-oriented production with the feeling of a live band. The focus is on Rhodes, bass and drums. The music moves in the border area between jazz, instrumental beats and atmospheric electronica and ties in with a common tradition that extends to early bonobo, Jon Hopkins, Yussef Dayes, BADBADNOTGOOD, Kamaal Williams, Richard Spaven and Alfa Mist. As his first album under his own name in over twelve years, Quiet Fire reflects a shift towards beat-driven compositional style, loop-based structure and a producer mentality, rather than a traditional, composition-oriented process. Synthesizer sounds, sampled fragments and restrained voices expand the sound. Guest appearances by Nils Petter Molvær (trumpet), Olga Amelchenko (saxophone) and Stuart McCallum (guitar) complement the core trio of Jon Goode (bass) and Elliot Bennett (drums).
