The English heavy metal band Diamond Head was founded in Stourbridge in 1976 by guitarist Brian Tatler and drummer Duncan Scott. Diamond Head were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and are recognized by bands such as Metallica and Megadeth as a major early influence. Their album "Borrowed Time" is a classic of the NWOBHM era and was originally released in 1982.
The album's opening tracks, "In the Heat of the Night" and "Call Me," are both power ballads that clearly mark the band's shift towards a more mainstream sound. Sean Harris paints a vivid picture with his soulful vocals, and guitarist Brian Tatler adds superb solos and rhythms to the songs. The album also features "Am I Evil?", which remains the band's signature song and gained international recognition through Metallica's cover version.
