With »Taiga Trans«, the Swedish collective Fauna presents a debut album that immediately captivates: a hypnotic mix of krautrocking motor skills, psychedelic ritual energy and the pulsating force of a nocturnal rave. The nine musicians create a sound space that seems archaic and hypermodern at the same time - a place where traditional instruments and electronic textures intertwine to form a multi-sensory musical experience. Electronic wind noise, fine percussive patterns, the whirring click of a Jews' harp and the shimmering lines of the Turkish saz meet distorted guitars, deep bass pressure and four-quarter grooves. Fauna combines these elements into an energetic sound journey that transcends cultural and temporal boundaries. The roots of the project lie in free jams by guitarist Tommie Ek and bassist Ibrahim Shabo, whose Syrian background has just as much an effect on the music as the French, Finnish, Polish, Swedish and Turkish influences of the other members. Vocals in broken Arabic, Swedish and French enhance the trance-like effect of the compositions without pushing themselves into clear meanings. Taiga Trans distills the band's improvisational live energy into eight condensed pieces that are both club-ready and spiritually charged. An album to dive into, to let go - and to listen to again.
