»G N' R Lies« followed in 1988: a mix of older recordings that they had originally recorded on their own two years earlier on the EP »Live?! *@Like A Suicide«, and brand new songs – and again the album entered the US charts at number 2. With five times platinum (for five million albums sold), a Grammy nomination in the category "Best Hard Rock Performance" and the gold-plated Top 5 single "Patience", they laid the foundation for the incredibly great sensation that was to follow in the early nineties... On September 17, 1991, the time had come when half a dozen of their later "greatest hits" were added: The double release of the albums "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" was the sensation of the year. Part I gave the band the mega hits »November Rain« (#3 US), »Don't Cry« (Top-10) and »Live And Let Die«. On the second part there was another US gold candidate with »You Could Be Mine« (also heard in »Terminator 2«), and her Dylan cover (»Knockin' On Heaven's Door«), »Yesterdays« and »Civil War« could not be missing from the best-of album afterwards. GN'R were so huge at this point that both parts of »Use Your Illusion« sold 7 million copies each – which meant 2x 7x platinum in the USA. (By the way, Part II took 1st place, while »Use Your Illusion I« then only remained number 2 in the US charts). In addition, her cover of "Live And Let Die" (Paul McCartney & Wings) was subsequently nominated for another Grammy. The most recent tracks on the »Greatest Hits« classic come from the 1993 album »The Spaghetti Incident?«: Their collection of cover versions, mainly punk songs and other early influences of the band members, again went into the top 5 in Germany and #4 in the USA. The »Greatest Hits« album, which is now being released as a 2LP, features the two interpretations of »Ain't It Fun« (originally by The Dead Boys from 1978) and »Since I Don't Have You« (a doo-wop number by The Skyliners).
