In February 2025, Heather Nova will release her 13th album »Breath And Air« via V2 Records. It's a collection of moody songs rich in melodies, lyrics and arrangements, with Heather's signature vocals, strong and ethereal as ever. The album envelops you in a timeless atmosphere that invites you to forget everything for a moment and at the same time find your way back to yourself. "The older I get, the more I realize that I've been repeating patterns all my life, even ones that don't serve me: thought patterns, relationship patterns... We repeat the cycles until we really learn what our core wounds are and how to heal them. Songwriting itself is a search for meaning and clarity about ourselves and the world we live in." Heather wrote the songs on »Breath and Air« for the past two years and spent four weeks in the countryside of Devon (UK), where she barricaded herself in a charming studio with Chris Bond (Ben Howard) and recorded the tracks. "There were usually just two of us, and Midori Jaeger came from London for a few days to play her beautiful cello. Outside the window was a field. I watched the light there change as the day went on. There was a rare albino pheasant that came and went. I took that as a good sign!" Breath and Air, Ebbs and Flows, Butterflies and Moths: these are some of the titles of the songs: "The duality of nature and life is something I explore in my songs. Two things can be true at the same time – that's something I've come to realize as I've gotten older. Accepting and balancing this duality leads to a deeper understanding of relationships. We can't have light without darkness, we can't have joy without pain. These are simple things, but I have to keep reminding myself of them. Many of the songs are about love, loss and longing. These themes run like a thread through my life - the search for wholeness, healing and meaning. I keep coming back to it and looking at it from different angles, through time and through music. It's an ongoing journey with no signs of reaching a destination. My songs are documents of that journey."
