Heavenly are back! Heavenly are as independent as any punk band, but as melodic as any chart-topper, combining sharp-edged lyrics with shamelessly cheerful pop music. The band consists of original members Amelia Fletcher, Peter Momtchiloff, Cathy Rogers and Rob Pursey, who are now supported by Ian Button on drums. An important element in the history of Heavenly was the loss of Mathew Fletcher, who took his own life shortly before the release of the fourth album. It took Amelia, Peter, Cathy and Rob a long time to get over this loss; maybe it took even longer to find a drummer as good as Ian. »Highway To Heavenly« shares its musical recipe with the band's first four albums, all released in the 1990s, at a time when sensitive indie types in the UK were seeking shelter from the prevailing macho rock storm under the umbrella of Sarah Records, and when women in the US were starting to find their riot grrrl voices in the small town of Olympia, where labels like K and Kill Rock Stars created a new creative space. Filled with anger, sadness, empathy and love, the new songs oppose the resurgence of the cold "masculine energy" that makes the world a miserable, aggressive place today.
