Product description

The idea was simple: a week together in the studio, playing live, without a click track, amp turned up at full speed, just do what happens. Just be a band. Shortly before the recordings, we played four sold-out concerts in London within three days: North, South, East and West. We played the new album all weekend and worked on the songs between gigs. Then it went to a studio in Bruton, Somerset, where JT Soar's mobile studio arrived from Nottingham. Five days later, everything was in the can, with all the rough edges. A few imperfections. A few unpolished wrinkles. And it was better that way. This is the 15th album of Hey Colossus and the 30th or 40th record or something similarly absurd. The band is approaching its 25th anniversary, and you could seriously think about that. But not here. Music is therapy; Listen AND play. It felt like therapy. And it was necessary. Reference points we discussed: The Associates, Jonathan Fire*Eater, "Red Medicine" by Fugazi, The Ruts, Wire, Stereolab, Evergreen (the ones from Louisville), "A Thousand Leaves" by Sonic Youth, Wipers, Lungfish, Danzig, the Rolling Stones (with its positive and negative aspects), Tango In The Night (we talk about Tango In The Night all the time). Does it sound like any of this? Of course not. We asked Claire from Objections/Nape Neck to sing one song, and Angi Fletcher and James Finlay from Nottingham's Fists to sing another. Angi also designed the cover: All our pets, alive and dead, together, and they tell us: "The sky was wild!". They had a lot of fun. Of course, people were not allowed. We didn't deserve it. Now, in 2026, we run our own record label, release our own albums and music from artists we love. It's absolutely time to be in control. To offer a platform to those who are fighting the same battle. The music industry is in ruins. Wrong Speed Records and Hey Colossus are not part of the music industry.
