"...Three" delivers both powerful post-rock songs and psychedelic sound experiments. Each track seems to pursue a single idea; each a four-minute journey. The themes revolve around environmental destruction, societal missteps, and space travel. "...Three" is the album for the apocalypse or for an evening in space. Fun isn't neglected either: darkness is presented over fat, slow grooves. The tracks are compact and melodic. Catharsis is the goal: those who listen with open ears might feel better after the 11 tracks and 41 minutes. An exciting journey through musical soundscapes (surf, gothic/dark wave, krautrock, and prog-rock) spanning several decades. HUM's signature heavy riffs (in the shadow of Godzilla) with complex rhythms and breaks are augmented by new elements such as surf guitar, synth sounds, and vocal experimentation. The vocals, often distorted with effects, are used sparingly and deliberately, frequently accompanied by short lyrical fragments that underscore the mood of the songs. Three instrumental sound collages serve as dark transitions between tracks. A certain thematic thread seems to run through the album.
