Product description

This album presents current works for two guitars by the Chilean composer and guitarist Javier Contreras. At his side is the guitarist and pedagogue Jose Antonio Escobar, also from Chile - a formative figure in Contreras' musical development - to bring out the composer's imaginative harmonic and cosmopolitan influences, ranging from South American folk music to jazz. The "Sonata for Two Guitars" goes back to the versatile Sirilla dance. Elsewhere, Patagonian folkloric elements, exotic dances, fast-paced dialogues and exquisite timbres are evoked in music full of subtlety and energy. Duo Sudamericano has set itself the main goal of expanding the Latin American repertoire for guitar duo: Jose Antonio Escobar is one of Chile's leading classical guitarists, celebrated for his musicality and contributions to the Latin American repertoire and has made numerous recordings. Escobar currently lives in Chile, where he is a professor at the Instituto de Música of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Javier Contreras, a former student of Escobar and winner of numerous composition and interpretation competitions, has developed a remarkable career as a composer and classical guitarist, as well as initiating various group projects. Recently, he performed as a soloist at the invitation of the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg and the artistic director Rolando Villazón.
