Even though bands like Meteors, Polecats, and Frenzy are certainly more prominent in the public eye than the British trio, the Long Tall Texans, fronted by singer, songwriter, and double bassist Marc Carew, who also plays in the equally cultish ska band The Hotknives, have been successful for over 30 years. Despite sometimes lengthy breaks between albums and shows, the band's worldwide following is all the more numerous and loyal. The band's trademark has always been a psychobilly sound with a strong neo-rockabilly influence, which also incorporates elements of surf, country & western, and garage in a quirky and endearing way, resulting in an overall light-footed, catchy pop feel. In the heyday of psychobilly in the late 80s, the band took a stand against many of their genre contemporaries, who consistently pursued a faster, heavier, and darker sound.
