It was the early nineties, and the musical polymath Arjen Lucassen had started working on several projects: a solo album, a progressive rock opera and a rock album. At that time, he saw singer Robert Soeterboek performing live with Bodine, his former heavy metal band from the early eighties. "His singing really impressed me, a rarity!" recalls Lucassen. "He had the charisma and power of singers like David Coverdale and Robert Plant. When we realized that we got along very well on a personal level, we decided to work on some songs together, just for fun."
"We started writing songs together and found a natural flow that led to a wealth of ideas," Soeterboek recalls. "Our friendship grew as we spent more time together, and I remember doing a lot of nonsense and laughing."
Heute, im Jahr 2022, haben sie diese Aufnahmen erneut aufgenommen. Das Album enthält eine glorreiche Fundgrube von 11 Originalsongs mit einem liebevollen 70er- und 80er-Jahre-Einschlag. Es ist ein rasanter Streifzug durch den rollenden Gute-Laune-Rocker »Let It Ride«, das Beatles-eske »Doctor Robert's Medicine Show«, den bluesigen Groove von »Annie Moore«, den tuckernden Glam-Stomp von »High-Speed Chase« bis hin zum 80er-Jahre-Metal von »Ice on Fire«, während »The Preacher« auch auf eine Reihe von Arjens Backkatalog-Platten passen würde. Die Bonus-Disc enthält alle Demos und einige neu aufgenommene Tracks.
