In Guadeloupe, many think that jazz and ka music are like a ring and a finger. To a certain extent, the same could be said about so-called Latin music and the music of the French Antilles. Both aesthetics originated in the Caribbean and have so many connections that they can easily be considered cousins. In constant dialogue, there are many examples of their fruitful connection, and have been for a long time. The English country dance, which used to be danced in European salons, was called kadrille in Martinique and contradanza in Cuba. In both cases, additional percussion instruments were used, which were taken over from the transatlantic deportation. Based on shared feelings for the same traumatized identity - which was later creolized - it is reasonable to assume that they were intended to inspire each other. The present selection testifies to such creative enthusiasm. There are fourteen tracks that cross-fertilize each other in an unforeseen way: all kinds of music rooted in the Creole archipelago have found their way onto the tracklist. Whether they come from the city or are more rural, they all go back to what Edouard Glissant, in an interview about the place of West Indian music in the African-American context, called "the trace of singing that was erased by slavery": "It's the same in jazz, but also in reggae, calypso, biguine, Salsa... This trace is also manifested in the drums, whether they come from Guadalupe, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica or Cuba... None of them
