»Scratch My Back« is an album on which Peter Gabriel has profoundly reinterpreted and staged the compositions of a dozen other bands and artists. Gabriel himself describes it as one of his most personal works to date. In his opinion, the 12 songs that Peter Gabriel has selected are all among the great achievements of perfect songwriting. Nevertheless, the artist has succeeded in giving them all a very special charisma and magic in his extraordinary interpretations. There are two main reasons why this is a groundbreaking project: First, all artists whose songs have been interpreted by Peter Gabriel will in return choose and interpret a song from Peter Gabriel's rich oeuvre. The results of this creative exchange will be released on a follow-up album, which will be titled »I'll Scratch Yours« at a date yet to be determined. Secondly, Peter Gabriel has opted for a purely orchestral musical accompaniment, i.e. completely dispenses with the use of guitars and drums in the twelve songs, which puts Peter Gabriel's voice completely in the spotlight. In addition to well-known song classics such as David Bowie's »Heroes« and Radiohead's »Street Spirit«, there are also compositions by artists and bands that have only caused a sensation in recent years.
