Product description

London, January 19, 2023 – It is one of the most iconic, influential and best-selling albums of all time: »The Dark Side Of The Moon«. On March 24, it will be exactly 50 years ago to the day that Pink Floyd released their groundbreaking work in Germany (March 1 in the USA / March 16 in the UK). This special date will be celebrated with the release of a new deluxe box set, which will be released on March 24, 2023 by Warner Music. »The Dark Side Of The Moon« has lost none of its popularity to this day and continues to fascinate new generations of listeners. Pink Floyd developed the album partly as part of their live performances, which led to an early version of the suite celebrating its live premiere at London's Rainbow Theatre a few months before studio recording began. »The Dark Side Of The Moon» is Pink Floyd's eighth studio album, recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road Studios) in London. The iconic record cover, on which a white beam of light refracts in a prism in the spectral colors, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. »The Dark Side Of The Moon« has sold over 50 million copies worldwide. The new deluxe box set includes the CD and gatefold cover vinyl of the 2023 remastered studio album, as well as a Blu-ray + DVD featuring the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions. Another new Blu-Ray features an Atmos mix of the album, plus CD and LP versions of "The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974". A complete overview of all configurations can be found below. »The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974« will also be available separately on CD and for the first time ever on vinyl from March 24th. The live recording was made in November 1974 as part of the band's winter tour and is now available for the first time as an independent album. The cover shows a line drawing created by George Hardie in 1973. Fans of high-quality coffee table books can also look forward to the release of an accompanying volume, curated by photographer Jill Furmanovsky, supervised by Hipgnosis co-founder Aubrey Powell as art director and designed with the participation of the band members. The book is published in LP format and features rare and previously unpublished photos taken during the »Dark Side Of The Moon« tours from 1972 to 1975. A review of the Wembley concert from October 1972 published in Melody Maker at the time also offers an insight into one of Pink Floyd Floyd's most famous performances, plus a complete list of tour dates. The book "Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon: 50th Anniversary" will also be available from March 2023 and will be published by Thames & Hudson. Not only through the iconic Prisma cover we know: Pink Floyd have always been a visually groundbreaking band. For the 50th anniversary of »The Dark Side Of The Moon», the band is therefore inviting a new generation of animators to a special competition: The aim is to create new music videos for each of the 10 songs on the iconic album. The band has worked with animators since the beginning of their career (including Emes, Gerald Scarfe), and in some cases, the visual accompaniment of the songs has become as legendary as the music itself. The 50th anniversary will continue this tradition. On February 27, 1973, EMI Records held a press conference at the London Planetarium at which Pink Floyd's new album »The Dark Side Of The Moon« was presented to the world for the first time. Although the dome of the planetarium could only show a selection of stars, constellations and cosmic shots to the sounds of music, the event was a resounding success. Fifty years later, technology has made huge advances
