The »The Dungeons Are Calling« EP back on vinyl In 2021, earMUSIC pays tribute to the band Savatage with a new vinyl reissue series and reissues all albums of the metal icons from 1983 to 2001 on record. The album »Sirens« and the EP »The Dungeons Are Calling« make the start. »The Dungeons Are Calling« is a six-song EP. The songs were recorded during the studio session for their debut album »Sirens« at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, together with producer Danny Johnson. According to frontman Jon Oliva, »Sirens« and the long EP »The Dungeons Are Calling« were recorded and mixed in a single day. The two albums together were supposed to be Savatage's debut, but since vinyl records limited the total runtime, they were split. »The Dungeons Are Calling« was therefore published in 1984, a year later as »Sirens«. The EP songs, however, were newly recorded songs from an older, untitled demo that were written before the album. They dedicate themselves in a metaphorical way to describing the effects of drugs on the human mind. For the vinyl reissue of »The Dungeons Are Calling«, the songs have been remastered and provided with extended artwork and extensive liner notes. In addition to the classic black LP on 180 g vinyl in the gatefold cover, »The Dungeons Are Calling« is available as a strictly limited 12ʺ LP collector's edition on heavy, transparent red vinyl in the gatefold cover and with the 7ʺ replica single »City Beneath The Surface« as an exclusive addition to this collector's edition.
