Product description

Saxon use their time »Carpe Diem« is actually a sentence from Horace's ode »To Leukonoë«, but today it is a well-known phrase and a popular motif of wall tattoos. British heavy metal icons Saxon have taken these words as a model and titled their new, now 23rd studio album, the successor to 2018's »Thunderbolt« and their cover album »Inspirations«, which was released in 2021. "The Latin 'Carpe Diem' is known to everyone and 'seize the day' is something that should really be said and done more often, [...] The Roman poet Horace wrote this sentence in 23 BC in one of his poems, which is still used to this day. Don't put anything off until tomorrow! And as soon as it's possible again, we'll go on the ›Seize The Day World Tour‹ with the album. There is a lot of power in the phrase 'Carpe Diem'!" says frontman and co-founder Biff Byford. And you can already feel this power in the title track. The song shows Saxon in pure form – decisive and determined. The metal flag is aggressively held high and fervently shows old and new fans that sticking together is the order of the day and that Saxon and the genre itself must be celebrated. Byford continues about the album: "It all starts with the riff. If the reef appeals to me, we're on the right track. It's a very intense album and it's limited to the fact that a great metal song starts with a very good riff and this album has a lot of that." Ten to be precise. And they were recorded by Byford (vocals), Paul Quinn (guitar), Nigel Glockler (drums), Doug Scarratt (guitar) and Binny Carter (bass) together with producer Andy Sneap (Judas Priest, Exodus, Accept). Byford and Sneap were jointly responsible for mixing and mastering. Byford on the record: "The fiery intensity of 'Carpe Diem' is largely due to two extreme life situations: They were two difficult years. I had my heart attack in September 2019 and as a result, things weren't going well for the band and Covid came three months later. Fortunately, we had already started writing and recording the new album. We recorded the drums in Germany, the guitar parts at different locations. I wrote a lot during my hospital stay and we then arranged and threw together all the ideas we had. I think the circumstances have made it a very intense album and maybe this intensity also comes from the frustration of not being able to do anything during the lockdown period.« »Carpe Diem« comes as a standard CD and LP, as a Limited Indie Exclusive Edition with a blue vinyl and as a box set with the CD in a digipak, the LP (Black Vinyl) in a gatefold cover, a flag with the Saxon logo and a patch. All four variants can already be pre-ordered. CD 2022 New
