Saxon's self-titled debut album was originally released on May 21, 1979 and can arguably be described as the first NWOBHM album ("New Wave of British Heavy Metal"). It took the new sound of NWOBHM and combined it with early glam rock influences. The band was still in its infancy, but it eventually put itself on the map as one of the bands that spearheaded the heavy metal revival that swept across the island in the late seventies.
