"Solid Ball of Rock" is the tenth studio album by legendary heavy metal band Saxon and was originally released in 1991. Five of the eleven tracks were written by new bassist Nibbs Carter, who also co-wrote three other songs. The addition of the young bassist seemed to breathe new life into the group, who subsequently released some of their most aggressive songs in years, including the thoroughly thrashy "Altar of the Gods" and the downright fiery "Baptism of Fire." "For our audience—and without an audience, there is no band—we refocused on 'Solid Ball of Rock'," says vocalist Biff Byford. "Since then, we've been all in."
