Serge Blenner: Magazine Frivole on CD New
Cold, short, analog synthesizer instrumentals – on his second album, Serge Blenner remained true to his style but moved further in the direction of pop. The juxtaposition of dark harmonies and pop structures is what makes this album so appealing. In places, it seems like a blueprint for early Depeche Mode. After Sky Records eagerly snapped up the recordings for his first album, "La Vogue," and released it in 1980, Blenner's second album, "Magazin Frivole," followed just a year later. Musically, Blenner largely stayed true to his style but developed it further in the direction of pop. It wouldn't be surprising if "Magazin Frivole" had also found its way onto Depeche Mode's shelves, as the similarities are undeniable. Furthermore, Blenner was one of the few representatives of electronic music who preferred recording short songs rather than sprawling electronic excursions, as was the case with most artists in this genre.
