Steve Gunn: Daylight Daylight CD Neu
Steve Gunn has been a leading figure in American experimental/guitar-driven rock for over a decade. Following three acclaimed albums recorded for Matador, Gunn will now release his seventh studio album—and first in four years—on No Quarter. With "Daylight Daylight," Gunn aimed to capture some of the intimacy of solo playing, the sense of possibility and discovery that arises when he sits down to write, while simultaneously creating a rich sonic landscape for the listener to immerse themselves in. Instead of assembling a band to flesh out the songs, as he did with previous albums, he brought on board a single principal collaborator: producer James Elkington, an old friend and longtime associate who also produced Gunn's 2019 album, "The Unseen In Between." Elkington is known as a guitarist, but Gunn asked him to contribute arrangements for strings and woodwind instruments, inspired in part by the music they had talked about over the years (e.g. Mark Hollis, Ennio Morricone, The Fall, Basil Kirchin), and by the development of their own relationship while recording records – both together and with others. They quickly found a productive working process for "Daylight Daylight": Gunn recorded solo demos and sent them to Elkington, who had free rein to develop the arrangements himself. Working primarily at Elkington's Nada Studios in Chicago, they added further elements from there—a touch of synthesizer, a guitar overdub, a muted percussion line
