70 minutes of the great guitarist Steve Hillage surfing the "golden vibe" in 1973! Nine previously unreleased tracks from Hillage's recordings during an Echo Guitars jam session sit alongside 5 tracks from the same session, taken from the Searching For The Spark box set. The recordings are part of a series of archived tapes that Hillage unearthed. This tape was released with 'Wata Trip! 1973'. It was recorded when Hillage was living with Miquette Giraudy at the Gong communal house in Sens, France, as the band began developing the music that would form the core of Gong's Angel's Egg. The tape contained 3 hours and 12 minutes of captivating sonic wonders, brimming with glorious crackle and hum, employing tape echo, fuzz, and the occasional Wem imitation, with every single note, every guitar body crackle, every buzz, every harmonic, and every sliver of audio reverberating into infinity and beyond. It seemed to embody a pulsating moment in Steve's life and was like an organic, fully formed, almost naturally occurring psychedelic ambient album. These selected recordings represent a bubbling, rich cauldron of motifs, sounds, and themes, revealing more recent forms, shimmering fragments, and even complete, profound elements of future songs, some still years from conception. These are the preparatory sketches and watercolors, the appreciation of which can only enhance the enjoyment of the finished "masterpiece," and which even possess a beautiful, coherent integrity in their own right.
