In contrast to the 7-year-old album Hill West, which was produced very restrainedly, there are hardly any quiet, thoughtful, acoustic Americana tones on Todd Thibaud's new album Alchemy, but it is - quite the opposite - loud, fully electric guitar rock recorded with a correspondingly equipped 5-man combo! With its loud, dynamic sound, palatable guitar runs and rocking band arrangements, this is music with a clear pop / rock mission and a A first-class mix between Westcoast, Heartland & Prairie Rock based on solid singer / songwriting and melodic indie roots / guitar pop, and so Alchemy has the basic virtues of all the Heartbreakers, Wallflowers, Jayhawks, BoDeans and Gin Blossoms with a good pinch of Springsteen / Mellencamp / Hiatt & Co. But the end result of course bears the clear signature of Todd Thibaud! Alchemy comes with tasteful artwork and complete with all the important credits and all texts. All 10 songs were written by Todd Thibaud and recorded in the same quintet line-up, which will also inspire us live in April and May 2026: the master himself on the electric rhythm guitar (sometimes also some keys) and with his unique, sonorous voice, plus the eternal comrades-in-arms Thomas Juliano on the electric lead (also electric piano, Chamberlin) and multi-instrumentalist Sean Staples (here also more electric lead guitar than banjo, Mandolin and keyboards), plus the rhythm section Ed Valauskas on bass (plus keyboards) and drummer Chris Anzalone; everyone participates in the magnificent harmony singing throughout.
