Wednesday announce their highly anticipated new album »Bleeds«, which will be released via Dead Oceans. With »Bleeds«, the rock band from North Carolina presents a rousing collection of their narratively dense Southern rock, which - like the most captivating moments in their discography - sensitively explores the link between curiosity and confession. » "Bleeds" is a patchwork-like triumph of literary allusions and outlaw grit, of site-specific poetry and hair-raising noise. Karly Hartzman - the band's founder, frontwoman and main lyricist - attributes Wednesday's solid identity to their time together working on previous albums and a touring schedule that was as enriching as it was tireless. "Bleeds is the spiritual successor to Rat Saw God and, in my opinion, the quintessential Wednesday Creek Rock album," says Hartzman, expressing satisfaction with the way her band has refined and refined their signature trademark sound that makes them one of the most interesting rock bands of their generation. "That's how Wednesday songs should sound," she explains. "We've spent a lot of our lives trying to figure that out — and I feel like we've done it here." The single »Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)«, released today, is a perfect example of this alchemy. Karly Hartzman about the track: "This song is inspired by a story a friend told me when he had to pull a body out of a stream in West Virginia. Someone had drowned, but it took a few days before it washed back to the surface because of the current. 'I wound up here by holdin on' is a line from my friend Evan Gray's book of poems, 'Thickets Swamped in a Fence-Coated Briars': he gave me and Jake a copy of it so we could read it on tour, and that brilliant line immediately caught my eye, so I stole it and wrote the rest of the song around it in my own words." Last month, the band released »Elderberry Wine«, a timeless new twangy single that was critically acclaimed. Pitchfork named the song "Best New Track", TIME Magazine named it one of "The Best Songs of 2025 So Far" and the Guardian praised it as a "pedal-steel-sweetened heartwarmer" in its playlist. On the occasion of the release of »Elderberry Wine«, the quartet appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and made their highly anticipated live debut on US TV. Just like »Rat Saw God«, one of the most important rock records of the 2020s, »Bleeds« was created at Drop of Sun in Asheville and produced by Alex Farrar, who has been recording the band since »Twin Plagues«.
