CD review of the career of Wee Willie Harris, one of the fascinating original British rock'n'rollers, whose outfit and performances influenced musicians from Cliff Richard to David Bowie. • His 1962 recordings for Arton are re-released for the first time on this album in Bear Family Records®' "The Brits Are Rocking" series, along with his 1957/'58 recordings and the best Decca material. • Informative, detailed liner notes by Roland Heinrich, based on the research of Rob Finnis. • Remastered from the best available sources. David Bowie once said that Wee Willie Harris founded the Glam. Not to contradict the man who knew glam and glitter, it must be added that Wee Willie Harris was also the prototype of the punk look. Regardless of any classification, Wee Willie Harris was the epitome of rock'n'roll and extremely original. This great entertainer understood the essence of an American rock 'n' roll show and used it in the UK. And yet he was as English as possible. He was there from the beginning, and by blending British humour with American music, Harris helped establish the enduring tradition of British rock and roll. Wee Willie Harris is one of the wildest English rockers and is highly regarded by his contemporaries. Cliff Richard called him "the best." However, his merit lies in his influence in the 60s, but especially in the 70s and early 80s. Dressed in leopard skins, cloaks with his name embroidered on the back and brightly dyed long hair, he ventured into realms unknown in the gloomy everyday life of post-war Britain. Ironically, Wee Willie Harris is not a household name outside of his circle of admirers and hardcore rockers. With the ninth CD in our series »The Brits Are Rocking«, dedicated to British rockers, we would like to put the spotlight back on Harris. Join us in the jungle with the wild man of English rock'n'roll, whom the BBC accused of "promoting youthful decadence". Rage, stomp and move to the wild rhythms of »Soho - I Go Ape!«, R»ockin' at the 2 I's«, »Buona Sera«, »Let's Have a Party« - they are all included, as well as his entire oeuvre for the Israeli label Arton. Like Jimmy Dickens, Harris was small in stature, but loud! A long overdue retrospective! Tracklisting Let's Have A Party Rosie Lee I Go Ape!
