In 2023, Wood secretly collaborated with producer Kevin Antreassian on a new mix of his best-selling release »The Normal Album« Antreassian and Wood dug into the original recordings from 2019 to create more muscular takes, smoother edits, and a more nuanced and balanced mix, creating a version of the fan favorite that is one of the rare cases in which a new mix noticeably improves the original. »The Normal Album« is another twist in Wood's discography, playing sardonically with Americana and doo-wop sounds, strategically restrained yet highly emotional vocals, and lyrics full of scientific and philosophical references. The dark mania of Wood's previous 2016 release »SELF-iSH« continues in some tracks, but is more precisely arranged with a new band under his command. As with his debut album »Everything is a Lot« from 2015, the songs whip up sonically, but are brought together by interwoven themes and recurring musical motifs as well as an undertone of simultaneous dullness and vulnerability. After the original mix of »The Normal Album« was released, a live version of the LP's fourth track, »I/Me/Myself«, experienced an unexpected viral moment that drew attention to many other songs on the LP.
