The Texans sound very determined, straightforward, and raw on their third album, originally released in 1973, and this, including the hit "La Grange" (No. 41 in the US Billboard charts), makes it one of their best and most powerful. Even the openers, "Waitin' For The Bus" and "Jesus Just Left Chicago," groove endlessly, although still clearly rooted in the blues. "Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers" is another classic, leaning more towards hard rock (the vocals shared by Gibbons and Hill are superb here). With the intro to "Masters Of Sparks," you might briefly think you've finally arrived in the realm of hard rock, but the blues then shines through again – underscored by a "singing" slide guitar. The ballad "Hot, Blue & Righteous" sounds almost tender before things take a Southern rock turn with "Move On Down The Line," reminiscent of Lynyrd Skynyrd. "Precious And Grace" boasts a powerful riff and a great bridge and, along with "La Grange," is arguably the most powerful track on the album.
